Bowsey Woods is a five piece band formed by singer/songwriter Andy Barker in 2025.
Inspired by one of his favourite places to get away from the world, the Bowsey Woods sound swings from mellow moods to biting environmental protest songs.
Made up of talented and experienced musicians Tony McKenna (Drums), Kristian Wilkins (Bass), Stewart Campbell (Lead Guitar) and Oli Hagen (Keys), Andy fronts the band on vocals and guitar.
This band is brimming with songwriter talent: Kris, Oli and Stewart are all accomplished original songsmiths, adding to Andy’s catalogue of over 150 songs.
As a singer/songwriter Andy has a passion for the examination of the human condition. And an obsession for the current state of the world we have inherited, penning songs that spark conversations about how we live our lives, and how we can think and act for the benefit of everyone.
Notable highlights include working with (Graham Parker and) the Rumour's Martin Belmont, (Elvis Costello and) the Attractions bass player Bruce Thomas, and with his former band ‘Absolutely Sweet Marie’, music industry heavyweight Richard Niles (who hasn’t he worked with?), who produced a sizzling hot two-song demo.
Kris brings melodic, McCartney-inspired, lines to the songs on his reissue Hofner bass, as well as adding complexity to the blend with his rich vocal harmonies. Kris is also co-writer with 'Watching Planes', who released the first of many planned retrospective albums in 2025.
Oli is a keyboard genius who’s forging a well-deserved reputation for his musicianship in the Reading scene. Already a fixture in a number of bands, including Mr Pineapple, he brings thrills to the mix with his playing and harmonious backing vocals.
Stewart brings melodic, thoughtful guitar tones to complement the eclectic repertoire of Andy’s songs. He’s also co-founder of Reading folk band the Dream Sellers and guitarist in sartorial alt-indie rock band, Dandy Man. Stewart’s accolades include finalist in the UK Songwriting Contest.
Tony has vast experience playing in bands across the musical spectrum and is a versatile drummer who is adept at most styles.
