This song is a complete fantasy. None of this ever happened to me. I’m putting it down to influences such as Betty Blue, Jamón Jamón, watching too many road movies, listening to Bruce Springsteen’s Born to Run, and all my own crazy near misses! Everyone should be a little less sensible sometimes I reckon.

SHOOT FOR THE MOON
Tripping over your glass
Rolling on to the grass
And spilling all of your beer
Was a great way to make
The acquaintance that day
Of the craziest girl of the year
So you jumped to your feet
Your intentions so sweet
In one movement
You flicked back your hair
And I knew this could be
The making of me
In a very intriguing affair
CHORUS
Is it too soon
To shoot for the moon?
When there’s nowhere else to aim?
Let’s carry on with the tune
So we’re laughing and drinking
And dancing I’m thinking
I must have done something right
Which is so rare for me
That no one believes
All the stuff that went on that night
So we did all the things
That young love brings
Having the time of our lives
We were Bonnie and Clyde
On a high downward slide
Without a thought about
Who pays for the ride
CHORUS
When the music all ran out
What was certain turned to doubt
Every now and then
I hear that sweet refrain
Falling like rain
To wash away my pain
Well we’d got something going
Before we were knowing
We’d opened a can of worms
And it stabs like a knife
When the love of your life
Is starting to dictate terms
When the arguments started
You seemed so cold hearted
I guess that’s my point of view
And we couldn’t recover
Our love for each other
All the colours had lost their hue
It was too soon
To shoot for the moon
Now there’s nothing left to do
But carry on with the tune
