What started out as a Christmassy love song drifted into another eco protest song. After 200 years of industrialisation, like the band on the Titanic that played on regardless, we're going down. Who knows when the last bell will ring and the last song be sung? There's only a small window now to avoid catastrophe. And Christmas is surely all about hope if nothing else?
SILENT NIGHT
I am seeing colours
Flashing in the dark
Maybe things are better
Hope has found its spark
Can we pull together?
Form a human chain?
Save ourselves from drowning
In a flood of shame
It only took 200 years
To sign off our fate with our tears
CHORUS
Freeze the frame
On your warm face
We’re coming home
To our safe place
Hopes and fears
All put to flight
Outweigh the darkness
With this starlight
We’re deafened by an optimistic peace
On this silent night
Smoke and mirror shadows
Hiding the insane
Blackening the future
With an oily stain
I am seeing beauty
Spoiled by a beast
Can we change direction?
We still have a choice at least
From whisper to a shout
Convince the world now there is no doubt
CHORUS
The bells have rung
La la la la
The last song sung
La la la la
