Travel back to carefree days before responsibilities meant getting a proper job. And how we wasted so much time!
Most of my friends were living in London when I was in my 20s, and our lives seemed to be a Howard Hodgkin painting saturated with the memories of gigs, comedy, football, parties, and bars.
Safe to say it often involved a girl making me feel all giddy.
Well that’s how I remember it!
BRING BACK THAT DAY
Someone walked into the room
A dazzling smile amid the gloom
A red dress floated in the breeze
And dappled sunlight paints the old plane trees
The tube trains rumble down below
And beckon us to join the flow
I couldn’t take my eyes off you
Running down the steps at Waterloo
Acting so care free
With our liberty
CHORUS
And if I knew what to say
To bring back that day
I would have said it by now
Shuffle over don’t be shy
It’s time to face our long goodbye
You had me taken for a while
But my substance couldn’t match your style
Acting so care free
We waste time casually
CHORUS
Like a shirt that’s buttoned up wrong
You're out of sorts you feel you don’t belong
Take it back to all those sliding doors
Could have been much different now
Instead of chasing this lost cause
Time moves faster than you think
Don’t close your eyes don’t even blink
Tomorrow’s always on its way
Before we had a chance to own today
Acting so care free
With reality
CHORUS
And if we knew what to say
To bring back that day
We would have said it by now
